Social Events

Various social events are organised throughout the year for parents to get to know one another and share their experiences.

Fishing

The "Seven Hills-Toongabbie RSL Anglers Club" regularly treat our mums and dads to a day of fishing on the open sea (generously funded by the Seven Hills-Toongabbie RSL).

"Thank you Cure Our Kids so much for organising the fishing day, it was a real break for Limbert. He is very dedicated to his kids and rarely makes time to do something he really enjoys like fishing. He had a great time".

Warmest Regards, Sandra

"We had a great day on Sunday. Unfortunately, not many fish. Young Joey, caught two legal sized snapper and a shark, and the other guys got some flounder and Bonnitto, as well as other smaller fish, so we did a little tour of the harbour.

I think we may have to take the ladies out next time, or we might have a mutiny on our hands".

Regards, Dinc (Seven Hills-Toongabbie RSL Anglers Club)

BEERS, CHEERS & RUGBY LEAGUE

The idea of this initiative came from a dad who wanted to interact with other men who had been through the tough experience of having a child undergo cancer treatment. Cure Our Kids invited 20 dads to watch the South Sydney Rabbitohs v Parramatta Eels game in a corporate box at Telstra Stadium. The entire day was a great success. Here's what some of the dads had to say...

"I would like to thank Cure Our Kids for organizing the Dads Day Out, and for the opportunity to attend, the day was a great success, not to mention a fantastic day out.

The opportunity to mingle with other dads dealing with childhood cancer was great, most of the dads don't often get the chance to chat with other parents in the clinic, or around the hospital due to work commitments or other, this was the perfect opportunity, Well done on a successful day".

Regards, Steve

"Thank you, it was a great arvo. I enjoyed meeting the other Dads. And, was amazed that so many came straight from the hospital (like I did). Every single thing on the day was perfect. Well done".

Cheers, Allan

Champas, laughs and gorgeous frocks – that’s the trifecta that made our first Mums’ Day Out at Rosehill Races on Saturday 19th July 08 an all round winner!

A social event exclusively for women who have, or have had, a child in treatment for cancer at Westmead, the inaugural Mums’ Day Out provided an opportunity for mums to build rapport and enjoy a free glamorous outing. In the company of others who’ve been similarly touched by childhood cancer, the event gave mums the chance to talk about their experiences, take heart from others’ stories and form supportive friendships. And, perhaps most importantly, to simply let their hair down and enjoy a fun-filled day!

“It was indeed a terrific day. We laughed, we cried, it was lots of fun and very good for the soul. It was great to be able to meet other Mums in a social setting, away from the kids, so we could talk properly… A great day and I've no doubt many more mothers would benefit from something similar.” - Jennifer Hobbs

”I will remember that day.It was great to be with other mothers to have that support and time out.” - Deanne O’Hare
