Watching their child undergo treatment for cancer is possibly one of the most distressing experiences for any parent. They know they need to maintain their composure for their child’s sake, but they also in many cases need to hold together their whole family through an incredibly emotional and extraordinary time.
These families are also inspirational – we constantly ask how they stay strong while they are struggling to come to grips with the devastation that childhood cancer is wreaking on their everyday lives.
Many of these parents find themselves in a similar position as Carolyn Dodds did all those years ago – incredibly grateful for the care and support given to them by the staff at Oncology Unit and wanting desperately to show their appreciation in some way.
In an effort show their gratitude, these families have become Ambassadors for Cure Our Kids, helping us to raise awareness of the continuing battle against childhood cancer.
