Northern Beaches Social Riders (NBSR) adopted Cure Our Kids as their charity of choice in 2004 after a chance meeting between club president Glenn Nicholls and Carolyn Dodds – a meeting that has paid considerable dividends for the Oncology Unit at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
With their motto “Ride for the Kids”, the member’s enthusiastic efforts have resulted in a total of $76,800 donated to date, through a fundraising program that includes numerous raffles and Bikey BBQ’s.
NBSR have supported Cure Our Kids with more than just cash – their role in the annual Fully Sick Kids Christmas Parties (held at Parramattta Stadium) are now legendary – with a fully decked-out Santa Claus arriving with a sack full of presents, riding high on his Harley Davidson with an escort of 20 or more ‘helpers’ to give out all the goodies to the kids.
Santa then roars off to his next port of call - the Children’s Hospital at Westmead to bring a bit of cheer to the children who were too sick to attend the party.
Its been reported that the day is truly one of the most moving days for all the NBSR members and of course a totally memorable experience for the families that attend.
NBSR have become an invaluable part of the Cure Our Kids supporters network who’s tireless efforts are enormously appreciated by all those involved with the Oncology Unit. |
