Mel & Alani's Story

Alani was 4 years old when she was diagnosed with Acute Myloid Leukaemia (AML) in October 2008.

Our family moved to Ronald McDonald House at Westmead Children’s Hospital and we stayed there for six months returning home to Port Macquarie in April 2009.

Alani is in remission and can’t wait to compete in the City2Surf. Ever since she was a baby she loved to come jogging with me in the jogger pram. It was her mediation time. As she got older it became our time to chat or listen to music. She cannot wait until she is 7 years old so she can compete in the WeetBix Triathlon Challenge.

I have competed in City2Surf 4 times - sometime being ultra fit and sometimes just after I had my babies. I have walked and ran the race and each experience has been brilliant. There is not many times that you get to run with 60,000 people. This year will be yet another experience - running/walking with Cure Our Kids team!!

I have written a program for walkers, joggers & runners. So no matter what your fitness level you can do this! Please be consistent with your training - that way you will get the best out of this experience.
