In 1999 Sydney event manager Carolyn Dodds was given the devastating news that her seven year old son, Mitchell had cancer.
Amid her grief and fear, she was overwhelmed by the care and dedication shown by the staff in the Oncology Ward at The Children's Hospital at Westmead. At a time when she herself needed support, she felt compelled to help those around her and decided to do what she does best and organise a fundraising event.
That inaugural charity ball, raised $100,000 and lead to the establishment of Cure Our Kids, a charity dedicated to raising funds for the Oncology Ward at The Children's Hospital Westmead.
Today, Cure Our Kids raises a steady $1.5 million a year and has become an integral part of the care and support given to families struggling to come to grips with childhood cancer.
Mitchell, the courageous seven year old who inspired that first event is now fighting fit and has been in remission for well over 5 years.
